Mona Holladay Funk died at age 94 on Friday, January 13, 2012, in Lehi, Utah. Her husband and all four of their children were able to say goodbye and express their love for her just before her passing.
Mona was born in Pima, Arizona, May 9, 1917, daughter of Adelbert and Iris Gertrude Curtis Holladay. When she was five years old, her father and sister drowned, and her mother took the three remaining children to California to live. In 1938, Mona was sealed to her beloved eternal companion, I. Verl Funk, in the Mesa Arizona Temple. Until 1977, they resided in the Temple City, California, area, where her husband was employed as a banker, and then they moved to Utah. Mona was a conscientious and devoted wife and mother, a meticulous seamstress, and an accomplished teacher and secretary in the LDS Church. She loved the Savior Jesus Christ, His gospel, and her home and family. With her husband she served as a full-time proselyting missionary in the California San Jose Mission, 1983 – 1984, enjoying success especially in their work with young single adults.
She is survived by her husband and their children: Jeanine Franson (Karl) of Springville, Ronald Funk (Wanda) of Lehi, LaVon Anderson (James) of High River, Alberta, and Alan Funk (Judy) of Orem. Their son David Curtis Funk died at birth. Presently they have 26 grandchildren and 74 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, January 20, 2012 at the Pleasant View 8th Ward Chapel, 2400 North 1060 East, Provo, Utah. Friends may call at the church from 9:30-10:45 a.m. prior to services. Interment will be in the Provo City Cemetery.
